Many things in
life make us get angry, traffic jams, incompetent drivers to name but a few,
and ‘road rage’ has become quite a common place term in recent years. While all
people can be affected by anger, it seems that it is very often men who are most
likely to fly off the handle first, with very little prior warning. For this
reason, anger management for men is
often a little different to the treatment required for women with anger related
problems. Men with a short fuse are very difficult to live with, and for this
reason many an otherwise happy marriage or relationship has come to a premature
ending. Many people just get sick of dealing with a partner who has allowed
their anger to control them, instead of learning to control their anger
effectively.
There is also
evidence to suggest that anger can seriously affect your health. Whenever you
blow your fuse, rather than releasing your anger you are actually increasing
your blood pressure, and have increased and rapid breathing, and studies show
that people with increased levels of anger are more likely to suffer from high
blood pressure and coronary heart disease. Anger
management for men is therefore important for very many reasons.
There are many
strategies which you can use in order to control your anger. Just by stepping
back from a situation and giving yourself a couple of minutes to calm down can
be very effective anger management for
men, as well as techniques such as deep breathing and counting to ten,
(breathing deeply from the diaphragm is a well known relaxation technique which
is simple to do). Maybe if you can see a
situation arising which is likely to trigger your button, take a walk for 10
minutes, listen to relaxing music and just avoid the situation if at all
possible. Learn to recognise the triggers and you’re already part way there to
controlling your anger, instead of it controlling you.
