Coping with Anger

It can be difficult to learn techniques for coping with anger both for the person who has the anger issues and the rest of the family and friends, but really, once the problem has been acknowledged it is very important that it is dealt with for the peace of mind and a happier life for everybody concerned. Living with someone with anger issues can be extremely frightening, and many otherwise happy relationships have broken down because one or other cannot control their temper. It is important to learn to control your temper and not let it take control of you and your life.

It is important to realise what triggers the angry reactions and why. Very often the apparent triggers are really not the deep root of the problem, and someone can react badly to a loved one at home when the real problem could be at work or in some other part of their life. For effectively coping with anger it is important to first recognise the root of the problem to deal with it.

If you do feel that you are about to blow, there are some techniques which you can use for coping with anger. It may help to remove yourself from the situation for a while to give yourself some time, perhaps it will be possible to simply go for a short walk, listen to some relaxing music or read a book for a while until you are feeling calmer. Very often it is helpful to direct your energy into a sport, maybe punching on a punch bag will help you to unwind after a fraught day, and leave you ready for a relaxing evening with your family. Sometimes all that is needed is to take a deep breath and count to ten, just be aware of the problem and how it can affect not only you but all of those around you.
